Orthopaedic and Sports Physiotherapy

From pre-operative preparation through post-operative rehabilitation to conservative treatment: personalised, evidence-based pathways in close coordination with the physicians.

Orthopaedic sports physiotherapy supports you throughout the entire course of care — from the phase before surgery to a full return to daily life and sport, even at the highest level of performance. Every programme is personalised, grounded in the latest scientific evidence and built in close collaboration with the physicians of the Dolomiti Sportclinic.

Pre-operative physiotherapy

Preparing the body for surgery is a delicate but essential phase, as it favours a faster and more effective recovery after the operation. Often requested by the surgeons of the Dolomiti Sportclinic, it aims to reach specific functional goals before the procedure. Continuous communication between physiotherapists and physicians ensures comprehensive care from the very first stages. Available in Bolzano and Merano.

Main indications

  • Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
  • Shoulder tendon suture procedures
  • Joint replacements (knee, hip, shoulder)
  • Knee arthroscopy

Post-operative physiotherapy on the ward

At the St. Ulrich/Ortisei site of the Dolomiti Sportclinic we offer physiotherapy on the ward — both before and after surgery — to support the patient from the very first hours after the operation. The main goals are to educate the patient in managing the post-operative phase correctly, to start the first steps on crutches and to teach simple exercises for the first days. The patient receives an explanatory brochure and a link to the exercise videos. (Coming soon)

Post-operative orthopaedic sports physiotherapy

Post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation is fundamental and gives value to the surgical procedure. To recover effectively and reduce the risk of complications, an individual, step-by-step programme guided by specialised staff is needed — one that gives the patient the awareness and tools to work independently too. A safe and prompt return to work and sport, in conditions of maximum safety, is our priority. Available in Bolzano and Merano.

Main indications

  • Outcomes of knee arthroscopy (ACL and MCL reconstruction, meniscal sutures, meniscectomy, trochleoplasty, etc.)
  • Outcomes of fractures
  • Outcomes of rotator cuff tendon repair
  • Knee, hip, shoulder and ankle joint replacements
  • Outcomes of ankle ligament repair or arthrodesis
  • Achilles tendon suture
  • Removal of fixation hardware
  • Outcomes of spinal surgery

Conservative treatment

When surgery is not required, a well-managed conservative pathway — based on accurate clinical reasoning — resolves the majority of musculoskeletal complaints. It includes therapeutic education, orthopaedic manual therapy, instrument-based therapy where indicated and personalised therapeutic exercise — the latter the true driver of a lasting change in lifestyle. The patient can then continue independently or with a personalised maintenance and monitoring programme. Available in Bolzano and Merano.

Main indications

  • Acute and chronic osteoarticular conditions (low back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis, etc.)
  • Acute and chronic tendon conditions (plantar fasciopathy, Achilles, rotator cuff, patellar and elbow tendinopathy, etc.)
  • Muscle injuries
  • Shoulder instability without surgical indication
  • Ankle sprains
  • Knee sprains without surgical indication
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome
  • Iliotibial band syndrome
  • Outcomes of conservatively treated fractures
